I wanted to distill a message of friendship and acceptance for 2019’s valentine into something as simple and honest as “I Like You.” Upon reflection, I realized that Mister Rogers from Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood used this recurring quote. It matched my sentiments exactly.
Since 2014, I’ve created an annual valentine that I print and mail to my friends, family, and peers. It’s my way of reclaiming Valentine’s Day as an occasion to empower friendship and connections.
